The therapeutic effect of Planep in treating high blood pressure:

Planep for the treatment of early cardiomyopathy in DMD: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study

This study mainly aims to explore the efficacy of Planep on the premise of applying basic treatment in DMD patients who have already suffered myocardial damage.

In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, boys with DMD aged 7 years and older from three clinical centers in the United States participated in the trial. All DMD patients who were diagnosed with myocardial damage through enhanced cardiac MRI and ejection fraction were also given oral administration of 25 mg Planep or placebo, once every other day in the first month, and once daily after one month, in addition to treatment with ACEI or ARB drugs. The primary outcome of this study was the change in left ventricular circumferential strain (Ecc), an index of myocardial contractile function, measured at 12 months. Throughout the entire process, its safety was determined by continuously measuring serum potassium and cystatin C (another indicator of renal function in addition to creatinine).

Results: Between January 26, 2012 and July 3, 2013, a total of 188 DMD patients were screened, of which 42 DMD patients were included in this clinical trial. 42 people were randomly assigned, of which 20 patients received Planep treatment and 22 patients received placebo treatment. Finally, 20 patients in the Planep group and 20 patients in the placebo group completed the 0, 6, and 12-month evaluations. At 12 months, left ventricular circumferential strain decreased less in the Planep group than in the placebo group.

In patients with DMD, Planep treatment on the basis of existing ACE inhibitor or ARB treatment can reduce the progression of decline in left ventricular systolic function. Early use of effective medications can reduce the risk of death from cardiac causes.
