Propecia is a specific inhibitor of type II 5a-reductase, an intracellular enzyme that metabolizes testosterone into dihydrotestosterone. It can very effectively reduce dihydrotestosterone in the blood and prostate. There have been many studies on the effectiveness of Propecia and Finasteride in treating hair loss in men and women. A study that lasted for 5 years showed that 48% of male patients who used finasteride hair growth agent grew new hair. However, new hair growth will fall out again within 12 months of discontinuing treatment.

Three clinical studies involving 1,879 men aged 18 to 41 years have demonstrated the efficacy of Propecia. These men suffered from mild to moderate hair loss. Four indicators were used to assess hair growth in these studies: hair count, photographic grading by a dermatology panel, investigator assessment, and patient self-assessment.

Two clinical studies of men with hair loss on the top of their heads who had been treated with Propecia for five years found improvements as early as the first three months of treatment compared with those in the pre-treatment and placebo groups. The results of patients receiving Propecia for 5 years showed that: 90% of patients stopped losing hair according to photo assessment; 93% of patients stopped losing hair according to researcher assessment.

In addition, based on hair count, 65% of patients treated with Propecia had increased hair growth, compared with 0% in the placebo group; based on photo assessment, 48% of patients treated with Propecia increased hair growth, compared with 6% in the placebo group; and based on investigator assessment, 77% of patients treated with Propecia increased hair growth, compared with 15% in the placebo group.

Orally, 5mg/time, once/day. 5mg/day, can be taken in the morning and evening, before or after meals, long-term use is recommended. Patients with Renal Impairment: No Propecia dose adjustment is required in patients with varying degrees of renal impairment (creatinine clearance as low as 9 mL/min).
