[Indications of Dutasteride]

1. Used to treat moderate and severe symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

2. Used for patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia with moderate and severe symptoms to reduce the risk of acute urinary retention (AUR) and surgery.

[Dutasteride Dosage] Adults (including the elderly): The recommended dose is one tablet (0.5 mg), once daily, orally. Capsules should be swallowed whole and should not be chewed or opened as the contents may irritate the oropharyngeal mucosa. Capsules can be taken with or without food. Although symptomatic improvement is observed early in treatment, it takes 6 months to achieve therapeutic effects.

[Dutasteride Side Effects] Common side effects are: impotence (1% to 5%), decreased sexual desire (3.1%), decreased sexual desire (≤3%), male breast enlargement and pain (≤1%), difficulty in ejaculation (0.1% to 1.4%), reduced semen quantity, etc.

[Dutasteride drug interactions]

Dutasteride is metabolized by CYP3A4 in the liver. In vitro experiments have shown that CYP3A4 inhibitors such as ritonavir, ketoconazole, verapamil, diltiazem, cimetidine and ciprofloxacin can increase the concentration of dutasteride in plasma, but have no pharmacological or pharmacokinetic interactions with tamsulosin, terazosin, warfarin and cholestyramine.

【Dutasteride Precautions】

1. It is prohibited for patients who are allergic to dutasteride or other 5a reduction inhibitors; patients with liver damage should use it with caution; patients with renal insufficiency do not need to adjust the dosage.

2. Dutasteride can reduce the concentration of prostate-specific antigen (PS). After 3 to 6 months of treatment, male patients can establish a new PS baseline level. Compared with normal men, treated patients can experience a 2-fold increase. Patients taking dutasteride can donate blood after stopping the drug for at least 6 months.

3. Once you come into contact with a leaking soft capsule, wash the contact area with soap immediately.
