(Rivaroxaban) Oral Instructions

Generic name: Rivaroxaban

Product name: Xarelto

Full names: Rivaroxaban, Xarelto

Indications:

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) is mainly used to treat venous thrombosis in adults.

For the prevention of venous thrombosis (VTE) in adult patients undergoing elective hip or knee replacement surgery.

It is used to treat venous thrombosis (DVT) in adults and reduce the risk of DVT recurrence and pulmonary embolism (PE) after acute DVT.

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) is indicated to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in adult patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation who have one or more risk factors (e.g., congestive heart failure, hypertension, age ≥75 years, diabetes mellitus, history of stroke or transient ischemic attack).

Usage and dosage:

Take orally.

Xarelto 10mg can be taken with food or alone.

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) 15 mg or 20 mg tablets should be taken with food.

Prevention of venous thrombosis in adults undergoing elective hip or knee replacement surgery

The recommended dose is 10 mg of Xarelto taken orally once daily. If the wound has stopped bleeding, the first dose of medication should be between 6 and 10 hours after surgery.

For patients undergoing major hip surgery, Xarelto recommends a 35-day course of treatment.

For patients undergoing major knee surgery, the recommended course of treatment is 12 days.

If a missed dose occurs, patients should take Xarelto (rivaroxaban) immediately and continue taking the dose once daily the next day.

Treat DVT (venous thrombosis) and reduce the risk of acute DVT recurrence and PE

The recommended dose of Xarelto (rivaroxaban) for initial treatment of acute DVT is 15 mg twice daily for the first three weeks, followed by 20 mg once daily for maintenance treatment and to reduce the risk of DVT recurrence and PE.

For use in adult patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism

The recommended dose of Xarelto (rivaroxaban) is 20 mg once a day, which is also the maximum recommended dose. For patients with low body weight and elderly patients (>75 years old), doctors can use 15 mg once a day as appropriate based on the patient's condition.

Side effects:

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) side effects 1-10%: abdominal pain, back pain, contusion, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, indigestion, epistaxis, fatigue, headache, nausea, hematuria, muscle spasm, oropharyngeal pain, osteoarthritis, peripheral edema, pruritus, fever, rash, syncope, toothache, urinary tract infection (≤1%), vomiting, wound discharge. Atrial fibrillation (6% major bleeding), DVT prophylaxis (5-6%; major bleeding <1%), DVT treatment (6-10%; major bleeding 1%), hematoma (<3%). 

Taboo:

Have a severe allergy to Xarelto (rivaroxaban) or any of its ingredients.

Patients with clinically apparent active bleeding.

Patients with liver disease who have coagulation abnormalities and clinically relevant bleeding risks.

Not suitable for pregnant and lactating women.
