Rivaroxaban is the world’s first oral direct factor Xa inhibitor, suitable for:

1. For adult patients undergoing elective hip or knee replacement surgery to prevent venous thrombosis (VTE).

2. Used to treat venous thrombosis (DVT) in adults and reduce the risk of DVT recurrence and pulmonary embolism (PE) after acute DVT.

3. For use in adult patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation who have one or more risk factors (such as congestive heart failure, hypertension, age ≥75 years, diabetes, history of stroke or transient ischemic attack) to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism.

So, what are the side effects of using rivaroxaban?

The most common side effect of rivaroxaban tablets is bleeding. All anticoagulant drugs have a risk of bleeding, but the probability of clinical major bleeding is relatively low.

Secondly, some patients may also experience skin reactions, and some patients may use rivaroxaban tablets, which may affect liver and kidney function to a certain extent, leading to an increase in creatinine and transaminases.

In addition, relatively rare side effects such as vascular abnormalities, abnormal platelet counts, and changes in coagulation function may occur.

Rivaroxaban tablets are a new type of oral anticoagulant, which is widely used in clinical practice due to its advantages. But after all, it is an anticoagulant with certain side effects. For pregnant women, whether it is to prevent or treat thrombosis, it will cause fetal malformations through the placenta. Anticoagulant treatment with rivaroxaban tablets for pregnant women and fetuses may also cause fetal bleeding. Therefore, women should not use rivaroxaban during pregnancy.

In addition, the biggest advantage of rivaroxaban compared to warfarin is that it is not affected by age and weight, does not require testing of coagulation function, and has little impact on the liver. The main side effects are the possibility of bleeding, anemia, etc., but it cannot be used if you have a bleeding disorder.

Rivaroxaban is contraindicated in patients with liver disease who are at risk for coagulation abnormalities and clinically relevant bleeding, and in pregnant and breastfeeding women.
