Rivaroxaban is a new oral anticoagulant indicated for adult patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (except atrial fibrillation caused by rheumatic valvular heart disease and atrial fibrillation after heart valve replacement) to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism.

So what are the adverse effects of using Rivaroxaban?

The main adverse reactions that occur when using Rivaroxaban are bleeding. Mild bleeding includes nose bleeding, gum bleeding, and increased menstrual flow; severe bleeding manifests as gastrointestinal bleeding, gross hematuria, etc.; life-threatening bleeding, such as intracranial hemorrhage, etc. The complications of this bleeding sometimes manifest as weakness, paleness, dizziness, headache, or other unexplained swelling.

Other less common adverse reactions include gastrointestinal effects, including retroperitoneal bleeding. Hepatic reactions, including jaundice, cholestasis, hepatitis, and changes in liver function may occur. Immune system reactions, including hypersensitivity, anaphylaxis, anaphylactic shock, and angioedema. Skin and subcutaneous tissue reactions, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome.

Rivaroxaban can pass through the placenta. For pregnant women, whether it is to prevent thrombosis or treat thrombosis, it will cause fetal malformation through the placenta. Both pregnant women and fetuses will be anticoagulated, causing fetal bleeding. Therefore, women should not take it if they are pregnant. It does not have a great impact on food. The drug has a certain degree of bioavailability, so if it is taken in large doses, the possibility of bleeding is relatively small, so there is no need to worry about this, because there is no need to monitor coagulation when taking the drug.

For patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation, the recommended dose of Rivaroxaban is 20 mg once a day. For patients with low body weight (≤50 kg) and elderly patients (>75 years old), doctors may reduce the dose to 15 mg once a day at the discretion of the doctor.
