It has been three years since the COVID-19 hit in 2019. There are currently many COVID-19 drugs on the market. Molnupiravir/monoravir/monabiravir was first developed by Emory University in the United States and jointly developed by Merck & Co. and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics. It was first developed in 2013 for the treatment of Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus infection. Due to its broad-spectrum anti-RNA virus effect, monogravir was approved for marketing in the UK on November 4, 2021, becoming the world's first oral small molecule drug to treat COVID-19. It also received emergency use authorization (EUA) from the US FDA on December 23, 2021, for the treatment of adult patients with mild to moderate COVID-19 who are at risk of progression to severe COVID-9 and/or hospitalization. There are:

1. Based on the main dosing experience in clinical trials, the drug should be given to patients who are considered to need medication, including those with risk factors for severe infection caused by SARS-CoV-2.

2. The effectiveness for patients with severe SARS-CoV-2 infection has not yet been established.

3. Administration should be started promptly after symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 infection appear. In clinical trials, no data are available on the effectiveness of dosing in patients starting on day 6 after the onset of symptoms.

Other things to note

Recently, many patients have reported that the therapeutic effect can be doubled by increasing the dose of the drug, or that the side effects of the drug can be alleviated by lowering the dose. These are all without any basis. The dosage and usage method of each medicine are different. Patients are not allowed to change their dosage without authorization, so as not to delay their own treatment. Only by using the medicine correctly according to the doctor's instructions can it truly benefit themselves.
