The main ingredient of Valganciclovir Hydrochloride Tablets () is valganciclovir hydrochloride. The currently approved indications include induction treatment of CMV retinitis, maintenance treatment of CMV retinitis and prevention of CMV infection in transplant patients. So, what are the precautions for taking valgancilovir hydrochloride tablets (valgansiklovir)?

Severe leukopenia, neutropenia, anemia, thrombocytopenia, pancytopenia and bone marrow failure including aplastic anemia have been reported; use valgansiklovir with caution in patients with pre-existing cytopenias and patients receiving myelosuppressive drugs or irradiation; in patients with severe leukopenia, neutropenia, anemia and/or thrombocytopenia, treatment with hematopoietic growth factors may be considered. Blood count differentials and platelet counts should be performed frequently, especially in patients with renal insufficiency and in patients with previous leukopenia caused by ganciclovir or other nucleoside analogues. Valganciclovir hydrochloride tablets (valgansiklovir) may have malformation or embryotoxicity, avoid pregnancy; male patients are advised to use barrier methods during and for 90 days after treatment with valganciclovir hydrochloride tablets (valgansiklovir). Women of reproductive potential should be advised to use effective contraception during treatment and for at least 30 days after treatment because of the potential risk to the fetus; similarly, men should be advised to use condoms during treatment and for at least 90 days after treatment. Stay well hydrated. Acute renal failure may occur in the following: elderly patients with low or no renal function; caution should be used when administering to elderly patients. It is recommended that patients with impaired renal function, patients receiving potentially nephrotoxic drugs, and patients without adequate hydration should reduce the dose of Valganciclovir Hydrochloride Tablets ().
