Can Pirfenidone be taken with other medications?

Concomitant use of Pirfenidone with fluvoxamine or other strong inhibitors of CYP1A2 (such as enoxacin) or ciprofloxacin (a moderate inhibitor of CYP1A2) is not recommended as this may significantly increase pirfenidone exposure. Use of pirfenidone should be discontinued or avoided before and during treatment. If fluvoxamine or other strong CYP1A2 inhibitors are the only options, dose reduction is recommended. Monitor for adverse reactions and consider discontinuing pirfenidone if necessary. Coadministration of pirfenidone with CYP1A2 inducers may decrease pirfenidone exposure, which may result in loss of efficacy. Therefore, discontinue use of strong CYP1A2 inducers before pirfenidone therapy and avoid concurrent use of pirfenidone and strong CYP1A2 inducers.
