The difference between opicapone and entacapone
Opicapone (Opicapone) and Entacapone (Entacapone) are both drugs used to treat Parkinson's disease. These two drugs are COMT inhibitors. They can inhibit the activity of catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT), thereby prolonging the action time of dopamine in the brain and increasing the concentration of dopamine in the brain. Opicapone is a once-daily oral medication, while entacapone is usually taken by mouth with each dose of dopamine. Due to the long-lasting effects of opicapone, entacapone needs to be taken more frequently. Opicapone can be used alone as a first-line treatment for people with Parkinson's disease. Entacapone is often combined with other Parkinson's disease drugs, such as levodopa, to enhance its effects.
