Is temozolomide a chemotherapy drug?

Temozolomide is a chemotherapy drug that belongs to a class of drugs called DNA base repair enzyme inhibitors. Its mechanism of action is through methylation reaction in tumor cells, causing damage and breakage of DNA chains, thereby hindering the proliferation and viability of tumor cells. Temozolomide, an alkylating agent used to treat glioblastoma multiforme and refractory anaplastic astrocytoma, works by slowing or stopping the growth of cancer cells in your body. Although temozolomide has a specific effect on tumor cells, it does not achieve therapeutic effects by targeting specific molecular targets, but by affecting the DNA repair process.
