Dasatinib (Dasatinib) is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor used to treat certain types of leukemia. Pleural effusion is an accumulation of fluid in the chest cavity. If a patient is taking dasatinib and develops pleural effusion, it is recommended to consult a physician immediately for evaluation and management. Your doctor will take a closer look at your symptoms and perform relevant physical exams and laboratory tests. This can help determine whether the pleural effusion is caused by dasatinib or whether it is due to another cause. Physicians may consider reducing or withholding the dose of dasatinib to observe improvement in effusion symptoms. In cases where a large amount of fluid has accumulated or is causing difficulty breathing, your doctor may perform a thoracentesis. This is a procedure in which fluid is drained through a needle to relieve pressure within the chest cavity.
