Common side effects and treatments of pomalidomide
Pomalidomide(Pomalidomide) is an immunomodulatory anti-tumor drug that belongs to the same family of "thalidomide derivatives" as lenalidomide. It is mainly used to treat relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma (MM) and is regarded as an important late-line treatment option in clinical trials in many countries around the world. As a highly efficient targeted immunomodulatory drug, pomalidomide has significant therapeutic advantages, but a series of adverse reactions related to the immune system, blood system and nervous system may also occur during use. Understanding the patterns and management of these side effects is the key to ensuring efficacy and safety.

On the hematologic side, the most common side effects include neutropenia and thrombocytopenia. Patients may experience weakened immunity, susceptibility to infection or bleeding tendency after taking the medication. Overseas guidelines recommend regular monitoring of blood routine before treatment and during medication. If there is bone marrow suppression of level III or above, the use can be suspended or reduced according to the doctor's evaluation, and the drug can be used to increase white blood cells and blood transfusion support. These side effects are reversible and most patients recover gradually once drug concentrations are reduced.
Nervous system adverse reactions are also more typical. Some patients may experience fatigue, dizziness, peripheral nerve numbness, or tingling in the hands and feet. This is related to the effect of the drug on peripheral nerve conduction. If the symptoms are mild, they can be improved by resting, supplementing vitamin B complex, or adjusting the dose; if the symptoms are obvious, the doctor should be informed in time to avoid affecting daily life.
In addition, digestive system reactions such as rash, constipation, decreased appetite, and mild liver enzyme elevations have also been reported in clinical settings. Most side effects are controllable, mild to moderate, and can be alleviated by adjusting diet, increasing water intake, or short-term drug intervention. For individual patients who experience allergic reactions, the drug should be discontinued immediately and treated accordingly.
