What are the effects of accidentally taking budesonide oral suspension (Eohilia)?
Budesonide oral suspension (Eohilia) is a prescription drug containing corticosteroids. It is mainly used to treat eosinophilic esophagitis. It improves symptoms such as dysphagia and retrosternal pain by inhibiting the inflammatory response. Since this drug needs to be used at a specific dose and course of treatment, if it is mistakenly taken, overdosed or used improperly, it may cause a series of systemic or local adverse reactions. The most direct effect after accidentally taking Eohilia is related to the pharmacological properties of budesonide.

Budesonide is a glucocorticoid drug. Excessive use may cause steroid-related side effects, such as oral candida infection, hoarseness, throat irritation, etc. in the short term; long-term misuse or significantly excessive dosage may inhibit the function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, leading to symptoms such as fatigue, weight changes, menstrual disorders, and decreased immunity. Especially in children and adolescents, overdose may also affect bone density and height development, so clinical dosage must be strictly controlled and doctor's guidance must be followed.
If a patient accidentally takes a larger dose at one timeEohilia, it is generally recommended to rinse the mouth with water immediately and contact a doctor to evaluate whether observation or symptomatic treatment is needed. Most mild ingestions will not cause serious adverse events because budesonide is rapidly broken down in hepatic first-pass metabolism and its systemic exposure is low, but individual differences may lead to metabolic abnormalities. For patients with reduced liver function or renal dysfunction, drug clearance is slowed down and drug accumulation is more likely to occur, thereby increasing the risk of adverse reactions.
In addition,Eohilia’s drugs are designed as oral topical agents, and their suspension formula allows the drugs to form a protective thin layer on the surface of the esophageal mucosa to enhance the anti-inflammatory effect. If the medicine is taken improperly, such as not shaking well, taking the medicine on an empty stomach, or taking it with a large amount of water, the residence time of the medicine in the esophagus may be weakened, thereby affecting the efficacy.
