What is Rivaroxaban?

Rivaroxaban is a prescription drug that is a Factor Thromboembolic events (VTE), prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), and reduction of the risk of recurrent deep vein thrombosis and/or pulmonary embolism.

Rivaroxaban can be used in combination with aspirin and can also be used to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in patients with chronic coronary artery disease or peripheral artery disease, but it is not recommended for patients with severe renal impairment (less than 30mL/min). Rivaroxaban is also indicated for the treatment and prevention of venous thromboembolic events (VTE) in pediatric patients (from birth to 18 years of age) and for thromboprophylaxis in pediatric patients ≥2 years of age with congenital heart disease after Fontan surgery. After oral administration, rivaroxaban is rapidly absorbed and reaches peak plasma concentrations within 2-4 hours. Bioavailability>80% at 10mgdose. When taken in a fasted state, the 15-20mg dose has lower bioavailability.
