How to take opicapone
Opicapone () is used with levodopa and carbidopa (levodopa/carbidopa) to treat end-of-dose "wearout" symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Opicapone is an inhibitor of catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT). Opicapone helps levodopa and carbidopa work better, allowing more levodopa and carbidopa to reach the brain where they can work. Opicapone is only available through a physician's prescribing information and under the direction and supervision of a physician.

Opicapone is a capsule preparation that will be stored at a temperature below 30°C (86°F). The recommended dose is 50 mg, taken orally once daily at bedtime. Patients should not eat 1 hour before taking this product and at least 1 hour after taking this product. For patients with moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh B), the recommended dose of Opicapone is 25 mg orally once daily at bedtime; patients with severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh C) should avoid using Opicapone. When discontinuation is prolonged, monitor patients and consider adjustment of additional dopaminergic therapy as needed. If a dose of Opicapone is missed, the next dose should be taken at the scheduled time the next day.
Opicapone has not yet been launched in the country, so it is not covered by medical insurance.
