The effects and efficacy of Niraparib

Although there are treatments for advanced ovarian cancer, the disease inevitably comes back. Niraparib has been shown to extend the time before disease worsens again in patients who responded to platinum-based therapy. This may delay treatment for ovarian cancer. Regarding safety, side effects can usually be managed by reducing the dose. In two major studies involving more than 1,000 women with ovarian cancer, including fallopian tube or peritoneal cancer, niraparib increased the time women lived without disease progression.

One study involved women with high-grade epithelial ovarian cancer who had relapsed after receiving two or more platinum-based treatments. The women had durable responses (the cancer had not progressed for at least 6 months) before the last platinum-based treatment. After receiving niraparib, women lived an average of 11.3 months without disease progression. Another study involved women with advanced, high-grade epithelial ovarian cancer who had been treated with only platinum-based drugs and had seen their cancer shrink or disappear. The women who then continued treatment with niraparib lived for 13.8 months without worsening of their disease.

NiraparibThe original drug has been launched in China and is included in medical insurance, but reimbursement is limited to eligible patients. The price of a common specification100mg*30 capsules per box may be more than 5,000 yuan. The original niraparib drug marketed overseas is more expensive than domestically. There are also generic niraparib drugs produced in other countries. Their pharmaceutical ingredients are basically the same as those of the original niraparib drug sold domestically and abroad. The price of 100mg*30 tablets per box produced by a Bangladesh pharmaceutical factory may be more than 1,000 yuan (the price may fluctuate due to exchange rates).
