What does Copanlisib do?

Copanlisib/Copanlisib (Copanlisib) is a targeted anti-cancer drug mainly used to treat certain types of leukemia and lymphoma, especially adult follicular lymphoma (Follicular Lymphoma). Its mechanism of action involves intervention in cell signaling pathways, specifically the inhibition of phosphatidylinositol 3kinase (PI3K).

PI3K is a protein kinase that is involved in the regulation of cell growth, proliferation and survival under normal circumstances. However, in some types of cancer, the PI3K pathway is overactivated, leading to uncontrolled growth and division of cancer cells. Copanliside/Copanisib’s key role is to inhibit the PI3K pathway and affect cancer cells in the following ways:

1.Inhibition of cell proliferation: Inhibition of the PI3K pathway reduces the proliferation rate of cancer cells, making it difficult to divide and spread, thereby slowing down the progression of cancer.

2.Interference with cell survival: Copanliside/Kupanisi also helps induce apoptosis of cancer cells, that is, programmed cell death, by preventing the activation of the PI3K pathway, thereby reducing the survival of cancer cells.

3.Inhibiting angiogenesis: In addition to its direct effect on cancer cells, copanliside/copanisib can also inhibit the formation of tumor blood vessels, thus limiting the blood supply to cancerous tumors, causing cancerous tumors to lack sufficient oxygen and nutrients, further inhibiting their growth.
