How selinexor works

A major study of402 patients with multiple myeloma who had received at least one prior treatment found that selinexor given with bortezomib and low-dose dexamethasone increased the time patients lived without their disease getting worse. Patients who received this combination lived an average of 13.9 months without disease progression, compared with an average of 9.5 months for those who received the combination of bortezomib alone and low-dose dexamethasone.

Another major study involving83 patients with multiple myeloma showed that selinesol given with low-dose dexamethasone was effective in reducing cancer in patients whose disease had not improved after four previous treatments and worsened after the last treatment. In one quarter of patients (25.3%), their cancer persisted for an average of four months after treatment with selinesol. Selinisol has been evaluated in one Phase I and one Phase II trial for the treatment of relapsed or refractory (R/R) diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). These studies found an overall response rate of 28%, including 12% complete responses, and a median duration of response of 9.3 months.

The original drug Seleniso has been launched in China, but it has not yet entered the scope of medical insurance. Specifications The price of 20mg*12 tablets per box may be around 20,000 yuan. The US version of the original Seleniso drug sold overseas, with a specification of 20mg*8 tablets, may cost more than 100,000 yuan per box (the price may fluctuate due to exchange rates), which is very expensive. Currently, there are also generic Selinisol drugs produced and marketed overseas. The price of a box of 20mg*16 tablets produced by a Lao pharmaceutical factory may be around RMB 4,000 (the price may fluctuate due to the exchange rate). Its drug ingredients are basically the same as those of the original drugs sold domestically and abroad.
