How much does Relugolix cost?
Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is a key component of prostate cancer treatment, slowing the progression of the disease by reducing testosterone production. Relugolix, a drug from a class of drugs called gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) receptor antagonists, is approved to treat advanced prostate cancer. Repagliflozin provides rapid and sustained testosterone suppression, combining the benefits of oral administration with potential improved cardiac safety, providing an alternative treatment modality for androgen deprivation therapy in men with advanced prostate cancer.
Although some androgen deprivation therapy drugs (i.e., GnRH agonists) produce an initial surge in testosterone levels (potentially leading to exacerbation of disease symptoms), GnRH receptor antagonists (of which Regaglic was the first oral drug) rapidly suppress testosterone without causing an initial surge. In a pivotal clinical trial in men with advanced prostate cancer, once-daily administration of leuprolide provided sustained castration in more than 90% of patients, with sustained castration rates no less favorable than a control arm (leuprolide) administered intramuscularly every 3 months. Results showed that repagliflozin was generally well tolerated and associated with a lower risk of major adverse cardiac events than leuprolide.
The original drug of Regogliflox has not yet been launched in the country, so it is not covered by medical insurance. There are European and Japanese versions of the original drug Rleglik available overseas. The ingredients of the two are basically the same. The price of the European version of 120mg*30 tablets per box may be around RMB 4,000, and the price of the Japanese version of 40mg*100 tablets per box may be around RMB 4,000 (the price may fluctuate due to exchange rates). Currently, there are no generic versions of Repagliflox produced and put on the market.
