The efficacy of oral semaglutide tablets (Semaglutide)

Many treatment options are currently available for patients with type 2 diabetes; however, a large number of patients are still unable to adequately control blood sugar levels with their current anti-hyperglycemic therapies. Semaglutide effectively controlled blood sugar levels in seven major studies involving a total of more than 5,500 people with type 2 diabetes.

Depending on the dose, semaglutide reducesHbA1c (showing improved blood sugar control) by 0.6 to 1.4 percentage points. The result was better than three other diabetes treatments: empagliflozin, sitagliptin or liraglutide, which reduced the risk by 0.9, 0.8 and 0.9 percentage points respectively. In addition to better blood sugar control, patients taking semaglutide also experienced beneficial weight loss after 6 months. Further research in nearly 3,200 patients showed that semaglutide may reduce the number of heart attacks and strokes compared with placebo, however, the difference was not statistically significant (this may be due to chance).

Semaglutide tablets have not yet been launched in China. Its injection has been launched in China and is covered by medical insurance, but only eligible patients can be reimbursed.The price of each 3ml tube may be around RMB 1,000. The original drug Semaglutide tablets sold overseas, with a specification of 3 mg*100 tablets, may cost around 2,000 yuan per box (the price may fluctuate due to exchange rates). There are currently no generic versions of semaglutide on the market.
