Can Semaglutide cure diabetes?

Semaglutide tablets (Semaglutide) is a treatment drug for type 2 diabetes. It belongs to a class of drugs called GLP-1 receptor agonists, which control diabetes by stimulating insulin secretion and lowering blood sugar levels. However, there is no guarantee that this drug will cure diabetes. Diabetes is a chronic disease that requires long-term management and control. In addition to drug treatment, it also needs to be combined with a healthy lifestyle, such as a balanced diet, moderate exercise and regular monitoring of blood sugar levels.

Semaglutide tablets contain salcaprozoate (Salcaprozoate), an absorption enhancer that facilitates the absorption of poorly soluble macromolecules such as semaglutide (but also others such as insulin or heparin), providing a more convenient route for drugs that are usually administered by injection. Clinical studies have shown that after 26 weeks, 69% of patients taking semaglutide 7 mg achieved HbA1c <7%, compared with 77% of patients taking semaglutide 14 mg and only 31% of patients taking placebo. People who took semaglutide 7 mg lowered their fasting blood sugar levels by 28%, those who took semaglutide 14mg lowered their fasting blood sugar levels by 33%, and those who took placebo only lowered their fasting blood sugar levels by 3%.

Semaglutide tablets have not yet been launched in China. Its injection has been launched in China and is covered by medical insurance, but only eligible patients can be reimbursed.The price of each 3ml tube may be around RMB 1,000. The original drug Semaglutide tablets sold overseas, with a specification of 3 mg*100 tablets, may cost around 2,000 yuan per box (the price may fluctuate due to exchange rates). There are currently no generic versions of semaglutide on the market.
