How long does Semaglutide last?

Semaglutide tablets (Semaglutide) is an oral medication used to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes over the age of 18. It should be used in conjunction with diet and exercise. Semaglutide tablets are best taken on an empty stomach when you first wake up and at least 30 minutes before eating, with a small amount of water (no more than 4 ounces). This ensures that the semaglutide tablets are properly absorbed. You can eat, drink, or take other oral medications 30 minutes after taking the medication.

Semaglutide tablets need to be taken slowly starting from3 mg, once a day. Starting at a lower dose helps your body get used to taking the medication and reduces the risk of digestive side effects such as nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, decreased appetite, vomiting, and constipation. Taking this low dose for 30 days is ineffective in lowering blood sugar. After taking semaglutide tablets 3 mg daily for 30 days, your doctor will increase the dose to 7 mg once daily. This dose is generally effective in lowering blood sugar levels and can be increased to 14 mg per day after 30 days if well tolerated and further blood sugar lowering is needed. Because semaglutide tablets start slowly at lower than effective doses, it does not start working properly until the dose is increased to at least 7 mg after 30 days of taking 3 mg. So it takes at least 31 days to be effective.

Semaglutide tablets have not yet been launched in China. Its injection has been launched in China and is covered by medical insurance, but only eligible patients can be reimbursed.The price of each 3ml tube may be around RMB 1,000. The original drug Semaglutide tablets sold overseas, with a specification of 3 mg*100 tablets, may cost around 2,000 yuan per box (the price may fluctuate due to exchange rates). There are currently no generic versions of semaglutide on the market.
