Do I need to take efavirenz/emtricitabine/tenofovir (EFV+FTC+TDF, Viraday) all the time?

Efavirenz/Emtricitabine/Tenofovir (EFV+FTC+TDF, Viraday) is currently available by prescription only, and treatment should be initiated and supervised by a physician experienced in the management of HIV infection. The combination of efavirenz/emtricitabine/tenofovir is taken orally in tablet form, usually once daily with water on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal). Take efavirenz/emtricitabine/tenofovir at approximately the same time each day. Do not take more or less than prescribed by your doctor.

Taking efavirenz/emtricitabine/tenofovir at bedtime may reduce some side effects. If a patient needs to stop taking an active substance in a medication, or needs to take a different dose of the medication, they will need to switch to a separate medication. This medicine should not be taken with other medicines containing efavirenz, emtricitabine, or tenofovir or lamivudine (another antiviral medicine). The goals of combined antiretroviral therapy are to control viral replication, curb disease progression, and improve the patient's immune function. To achieve this goal, patients are usually advised to take efavirenz/emtricitabine/tenofovir as directed by their doctor. If patients temporarily stop using these drugs, it may cause viral replication to restart, immune function to decline, and the disease to worsen.
