What are the side effects of Bimekizumab?

Bimekizumab, sold under the trade name Bimzelx, is a humanized anti-IL17A, anti-IL-17F and anti-IL17AF monoclonal antibody indicated for the treatment of plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. The most common side effects include upper respiratory tract infection (infection of the nose and throat) and oral candidiasis (thrush, a fungal infection of the mouth or throat). Injection site reactions are also common, reported in 3% of subjects.

In clinical studies, single doses of intravenous and subcutaneous meclizumab were administered up to 640 mg, with no evidence of dose-limiting toxicities. If overdose of bimeclizumab is suspected, the patient should be monitored for adverse reactions and symptomatic treatment should be initiated as clinically indicated. This drug should not be used in patients with severe ongoing infections, such as active tuberculosis.

In clinical studies of bimezumab, warnings and precautions such as suicidal ideation and behavior, infection, tuberculosis, liver biochemical abnormalities, and inflammatory bowel disease have emerged. Discontinue and resume at reduced dose upon recovery, or permanently discontinue based on severity. Complete all age-appropriate vaccinations according to current immunization guidelines before initiating bimeclizumab treatment. Avoid use of live vaccines in patients receiving bimeclizumab.

The generic drug Bimeizumab has not yet been launched in the country, so it cannot be included in medical insurance.
