The optimal number of courses of chemotherapy drugs such as trifluridine and tipiracil (Lancever) are required
Trifluridine and tipiracil (Lonsurf) are used to treat cancers of the bowel (colorectum), stomach, and esophagus (food pipe) and stomach (gastroesophageal junction). If these cancers have spread to other parts of the body (metastatic), they are treated with trifluridine or piracil. Usually as part of first-line or maintenance treatment regimen. The optimal course of treatment depends on the patient's condition, pathological characteristics of the tumor, response to medications, and overall health.
In general, a treatment regimen with trifluridine and tipiracil may consist of one or more courses, each of which may last from a few weeks to a few months. Standard dosing and treatment schedule is typically dosing on days 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 of a 28-day treatment cycle, followed by a 2-day break, then dosing on days 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12, twice daily with food. This cycle is called a "cycle" or "course," and this 28-day cycle may be repeated, depending on how well the drug works for the patient and the side effects experienced. Patients can take trifluridine and tipiracil exactly as directed. Do not take too much or too little or more often than prescribed by your doctor.
Trifluridine and tipiracil tablets are available in two different strengths, 15mg and 20mg, and doctors may want patients to take a combination of the two strengths to make up the full dose. For patients with advanced or metastatic disease, multiple courses of treatment may be needed until disease progression or unmanageable side effects occur. The doctor will decide whether to continue treatment and how long it will last based on the imaging results and the patient's overall condition. Do not stop taking trifluridine without talking to your doctor.
