Cycloserine mechanism of action
Cyseroserine, sold under the trade name Seromycin, is a gamma-aminobutyric acid aminotransferase inhibitor and antibiotic used to treat tuberculosis. Specifically, it is used along with other anti-tuberculosis drugs to treat active drug-resistant tuberculosis.

Cycloserine acts as an antibiotic by inhibiting bacterial cell wall biosynthesis. As a cyclic analog of D-alanine, cycloserine antagonizes two key enzymes important in the cytoplasmic stage of peptidoglycan synthesis: alanine racemase (Alr) and D-alanine:D-alanine ligase (Ddl). The first enzyme is a pyridoxal5'-phosphate-dependent enzyme that converts L-alanine to the D-alanine form. The second enzyme involves linking two of these D-alanine residues together by catalyzing the formation of an ATPdependentD-alanine-D-alaninedipeptide bond between the resulting D-alanine molecules. If both enzymes are inhibited, the D-alanine residue cannot be formed and previously formed D-alanine molecules cannot be connected. This effectively leads to the inhibition of peptidoglycan synthesis.
Recommendations for use in psychiatric settings are based on partial NMDA receptor agonism, which can improve neuroplasticity in experimental animals. As noted above, the extent of clinical usefulness is very unclear and is still being explored
However, the use of cycloserine requires strict compliance with your doctor's instructions. Before using cycloserine, strict pathogenic testing is required, and a corresponding medication plan must be formulated based on the severity of the patient's condition and individual differences. Since cycloserine has certain side effects, such as nervous system reactions and gastrointestinal abnormalities, it is necessary to closely observe the patient's reaction during use. If there is any discomfort or symptom changes, timely feedback should be reported to the doctor.
In summary, cycloserine plays an important role in the treatment of tuberculosis and other infections caused by sensitive bacteria through its unique antibacterial mechanism and cell metabolism regulation function. However, during use, you need to pay attention to its possible side effects and use it under the guidance of a doctor.
