What is the scope of treatment with erdafitinib?
Erdafitinib is an oral, targeted therapy used to treat adult patients with a specific type of advanced or metastatic urothelial carcinoma (UC). This drug belongs to a class of drugs called multikinase inhibitors, which work by inhibiting the activity of specific tyrosine kinases in tumor cells.
Erdafitinib has shown promising efficacy in clinical trials and has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat the following conditions:

1.Urothelial carcinoma (UC): Erdafitinib is suitable for adult patients who have received chemotherapy but whose disease has progressed. UC is a rare but dangerous type of tumor that often occurs in the bladder, ureter, and renal pelvis.
2.FGFRAbnormalities: Erdafitinib’s therapeutic scope is specifically targeted at patients with urothelial cancer who have FGFR (fibroblast growth factor receptor) gene abnormalities. FGFRAbnormality refers to the mutation, overexpression or amplification of the FGFR gene in tumor cells. These abnormalities are relatively common in urothelial cancer.
3.Ineffective or intolerable chemotherapy: Erdafitinib provides a new treatment option for patients who cannot tolerate or are ineffective in chemotherapy treatment. This is particularly important for patients whose disease has progressed and requires alternative treatment options.
Erdafitinib, while limited in its therapeutic scope, offers a new treatment option for patients with certain types of UC who are refractory to or intolerant to other treatments. However, patients should undergo genetic testing before receiving erdafitinib to determine whether their tumors have FGFR abnormalities and thus determine whether they are candidates for treatment with this drug. In addition, patients need to receive regular monitoring and follow-up from doctors during treatment to ensure effective management of efficacy and safety.
