How to take Cabozantinib and what is the dosage

Cabozantinib (Cabozantinib) is a multi-target broad-spectrum anti-cancer drug developed by Exelixis Biopharmaceutical Company. It can inhibit at least 9 targets including MET, VEGFR1/2/3, ROS1, RET, AXL, NTRK, KIT, etc.

Caboozantinib is available in capsule form (20 and 80 mg) for the treatment of medullary thyroid cancer. The recommended dose is 140 mg once daily, one pill of 80 mg and three pills of 20 mg. Due to side effects, the dose may need to be reduced or temporarily stopped, especially during the first eight weeks of treatment. Treatment continues until the patient no longer benefits from it or the side effects become unacceptable. Cabozantinib capsules should be used with caution in patients taking certain other medications that affect how it is broken down in the body. Cabozantinib is also available in tablet form for the treatment of renal cell carcinoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, and differentiated thyroid cancer. The recommended dose is 60 mg once daily. If serious or unacceptable side effects occur, it may be necessary to reduce the dose or temporarily stop treatment. Treatment continues as long as the patient benefits from it or the side effects become unacceptable.

There are several important considerations when taking cabozantinib. Cabozantinib should not be taken with food but at least 2 hours before or 1 hour after a meal. This is because food may affect the absorption and effectiveness of the medicine. If you miss a dose, if the time is within 12 hours, you should continue taking it at the normal time without taking a supplement; if the time exceeds 12 hours, you should take the normal dose immediately and take it at the normal time next time. In addition, foods or nutritional supplements known to inhibit cytochrome P450 enzymes, such as grapefruit and grapefruit juice, should be avoided while taking this medication.
