Instructions for use of Indian version of Apelvis (Abolib)
The Indian version of Apelvis (Abolib) is an oral drug developed and produced by Novartis Pharmaceuticals. It is a PI3K inhibitor and is mainly used to treat breast cancer patients. It is particularly suitable for patients with PIK3CA-mutated hormone receptor-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor-2-negative (HR+/HER2-) advanced or metastatic breast cancer whose disease has progressed after endocrine-based therapy. This article is a guide to using this medicine.
1. Usage and dosage
1. Recommended dose: The recommended dose of Apelvis is 300 mg once daily (i.e. two 150 mg film-coated tablets). Be sure to take it at the same time every day for best results.
2. How to take: Apelix should be taken orally with food. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not chew, crush or split the tablet. No tablets should be ingested if they are broken, cracked, or incomplete.
3. Missed dose treatment: If you miss a dose of Apelvis, you can take it with food within 9 hours after the usual taking time. After 9 hours have passed, skip that day's dose and resume the dosing schedule at your regular time the next day.
4. Vomiting treatment: If the patient vomits after taking the medicine, it is recommended not to take any more medicine that day and resume the dosing schedule at the regular time the next day.
2. Precautions
1. Before starting treatment with Apelvis, be sure to fully communicate with your attending physician about your health status. Please tell your doctor if you:
1) Have a history of diabetes or poor blood sugar control.
2) Have had skin problems such as rash, skin redness and swelling, blisters on lips, eyes or mouth, skin peeling, etc.
3) Currently pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Please note that Apelvis may have adverse effects on the fetus.
2. For women of childbearing potential: Before starting treatment with Apelvis, your doctor will perform a pregnancy test to make sure you are not pregnant. Be sure to use effective contraception throughout the treatment cycle and for one week after discontinuation. Please discuss with your doctor during this period and choose a birth control method that is right for you. Tell your doctor as soon as you find out you are pregnant or suspect you are pregnant.
3. For men of childbearing potential and a female partner: Please use condoms and other effective contraceptive measures during your treatment with Apelvis and within one week after stopping the drug. If your partner becomes pregnant, notify your doctor immediately.
4. Currently breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Because it is not known whether Apelvis is passed to your baby in breast milk, breastfeeding should be avoided throughout treatment and for one week after stopping the drug. Talk to your doctor about the best feeding options for your baby during treatment.
5. Tell your doctor about all the medications you currently take, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Concomitant use of Apelvis with other medications may affect its efficacy and may cause adverse reactions.
3. Storage method
Please store Apellis in an airtight container at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
In summary, the Indian version of Apelvis (Abolib) is an effective drug for the treatment of advanced breast cancer. Please follow your doctor's instructions for proper use and monitor your physical condition. If you have any questions or discomfort, please consult your doctor promptly. Currently, each box of the original version in India is priced at about RMB 5,000. Patients should choose formal channels when purchasing medicines.
