Cabozantinib side effects and treatments
Cabotinib, developed by the American biopharmaceutical company Exelixis, can inhibit MET, VEGFR1/2/3, ROS1 pan>, RET, AXL, NTRK, KIT and other targets, showing strong anti-tumor activity. However, at the same time, it may also bring about a series of side effects that patients and doctors need to pay close attention to.
1.Diarrhea: This is one of the most common side effects of cabozantinib. Mild diarrhea can be relieved by adjusting your diet and taking antidiarrheal drugs. If diarrhea is severe, seek medical attention promptly to prevent dehydration and electrolyte imbalance.
2.Stomatitis and oral pain: Patients may experience oral pain or discomfort. It is recommended to maintain oral hygiene, use a soft-bristled toothbrush, rinse your mouth regularly, and avoid irritating foods. Severe cases require medical attention, which may be treated with anti-inflammatory medications or topical ointments.

3.Hand-foot syndrome (PPES): Symptoms include redness, swelling, and pain on the palms and soles of the feet. Patients should avoid excessive friction and heat, and can use moisturizer to keep the skin moist. In severe cases, medical treatment is required.
4.Hypertension: Cabozantinib may cause an increase in blood pressure. Patients should monitor their blood pressure regularly and take antihypertensive drugs if necessary.
Fatigue: This is a common side effect of many cancer drugs. Patients are advised to get enough sleep, exercise appropriately, and seek help from their doctor to relieve fatigue symptoms.
5.Loss of appetite and nausea: These symptoms often affect the patient's nutritional intake. It is recommended to eat small meals frequently, choose light and easy-to-digest foods, and take antiemetic drugs if necessary.
6.Bleeding: Cabozantinib may increase the risk of bleeding. Patients should closely observe whether there are any abnormal bleeding conditions, such as coughing up blood, blood in the stool, etc., and seek medical attention immediately.
7.Cardiotoxicity: Although rare, cabozantinib may cause cardiotoxic reactions such as abnormal electrocardiogram and elevated cardiac enzymes. Patients should undergo regular electrocardiogram examinations and take appropriate measures as directed by their doctor.
In addition, cabozantinib may cause other side effects such as constipation, hair color changes, dysgeusia, and elevated transaminases. While taking cabozantinib, patients should pay close attention to their physical condition, communicate with their doctors regularly, and adjust their treatment plan in a timely manner to reduce the impact of side effects. At the same time, maintaining good living habits and mentality are also important weapons in the fight against diseases.
