How to take osimertinib

Osimertinib is a targeted drug used to treat non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), especially for patients with positive EGFRT790M mutation. To ensure the effectiveness and safety of medications, it is crucial to take them correctly. For most patients, the recommended dose of osimertinib is 80 mg daily, which is one tablet to be taken once daily.

The taking time of osimertinib should be as fixed as possible and should be taken at the same time every day to ensure the stability of blood concentration. Although food does not affect the absorption of osimertinib, it is recommended that patients choose to take it with a meal or on an empty stomach, which can be adjusted according to personal habits and gastrointestinal reactions.

Osimertinib should be taken whole with water and should not be crushed, broken, or chewed. This ensures that the drug is released slowly in the intestines and maintains stable blood concentrations. If the patient is unable to swallow the entire tablet, dissolve the tablet in 50 mL of carbonate-free water. Put the tablets into water without crushing. Stir until dispersed and swallow quickly. Then add half a cup of water to ensure there is no residue in the cup and drink it quickly.

If you miss a dose, you should take it as soon as possible, unless it is less than 12 hours before the next dose. In this case, there is no need to take a supplementary dose, just wait for the next dose. Based on the patient's safety and tolerability, the doctor may recommend suspending the medication or reducing the dose. If a dose reduction is required, it is usually to 40 mg per day.

For patients with mild hepatic impairment, no dose adjustment is required, but caution should be used. The safety and effectiveness of the drug in patients with moderate to severe hepatic impairment and severe or end-stage renal impairment are unclear and should be used with caution.
