What are the side effects of Pemetinib?
Pemetinib is used in adults who have already had treatment to treat a certain type of cholangiocarcinoma that has spread to nearby tissue or other parts of the body and cannot be removed with surgery. Pemetinib is also used in adults to treat a certain type of myeloid/lymphoid neoplasm (MLN; a type of blood cancer) that does not improve or comes back after other treatments. Pemetinib belongs to a class of drugs called kinase inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of abnormal proteins that signal cancer cells to proliferate. This helps stop or slow the spread of cancer cells. Although pemetinib has relatively low toxic effects, it still has some adverse effects.
Pemetinib is available as an oral tablet. For the treatment of cholangiocarcinoma, it is usually taken once daily with or on an empty stomach during the first 14 days of a 21-day cycle. Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to pemetinib: hives; trouble breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Contact your doctor right away if you have: eye problems—eye pain or redness, dry or puffy eyes, watery eyes, your eyes may be more sensitive to light; vision changes—blurred vision, seeing dark spots or "floaters," or seeing flashes of light; or high phosphate levels in the blood—muscle cramps, numbness, tingling around the mouth. If you experience certain side effects, your cancer treatment may be delayed or permanently stopped.
Common side effects of pemetinib in cholangiocarcinoma may include: hair loss; diarrhea; problems with fingernails or toenails; tiredness; change in taste; nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite; constipation; mouth sores, dry mouth; dry eyes; joint pain, back pain; stomach (abdominal) pain; high or low phosphate levels in the blood; dry skin.
Common side effects of pemetinib in bone marrow/lymphoma may include: problems with fingernails or toenails; hair loss; mouth sores, dry mouth; diarrhea; dry eyes; feeling tired; anemia; stomach (abdominal) pain; rash; constipation; This is not a complete list of side effects, and other side effects may occur. Regardless of any physical discomfort the patient experiences while using pemetinib, the patient should seek medical treatment immediately.
It should be noted that although the above adverse reactions may occur during pemetinib treatment, not all patients will experience these reactions, and the severity of the reactions will vary from person to person. Patients should follow the doctor's advice when using pemetinib and promptly report any discomfort or abnormal reactions to the doctor so that the treatment plan can be adjusted in a timely manner.
