Is Selinisol a targeted drug or a chemotherapy drug?
Selinexor (Selinexor) is an oral anti-cancer drug that belongs to a class of drugs called anti-tumor drugs that selectively inhibitnuclearprotein export (Selective Inhibitor of Nuclear Export, SINE). It affects the growth and survival of cancer cells by inhibiting the export of a protein called XPO1, also known as CRM1.
XPO1 is a nuclear export carrier responsible for transporting a variety of proteins from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, including some tumor suppressor proteins (TSPs) and oncoproteins. Pharmacologically speaking, Selinisol is a targeted therapy drug. Its mechanism of action is mainly to bind to the interleukin CRM1 to prevent many important tumor suppressor genes in cancer cells, such as p53, p21, FOXO and other proteins, from entering the cytoplasm from the nucleus, thereby restoring the function of these tumor suppressor genes in the nucleus and inhibiting the growth and proliferation of cancer cells.
This mechanism of action allows selinesol to selectively act on tumor cells while having less impact on normal cells, resulting in better safety and tolerability. Compared with traditional chemotherapy drugs, targeted drugs such as selinesol have a more precise mode of action and can more effectively interfere with the specific biological pathways of cancer cells and reduce damage to normal cells. Therefore, targeted drugs are generally better tolerated and have fewer systemic toxic side effects, and can provide more effective treatment options for some patients.
Currently, selinesol has been approved in many countries and regions, including the United States, the European Union, and China, for the treatment of hematological tumors such as relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma (MM) and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). However, even if it is a targeted drug, its mechanism of action may cause some adverse reactions, such as nausea, vomiting, fatigue, loss of appetite, etc. Therefore, patients still need to pay close attention to their physical condition and report any discomfort to their doctor when using selinesol or other targeted drugs.
