What disease is Mobotinib used to treat?
Mobocertinib (Mobocertinib), trade name Exkivity, is a third-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) developed by Japan's Takeda Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. The drug is designed specifically for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who carry an insertion mutation in exon 20 of EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor). EGFRmutations are an important driver of certain types of lung cancer, causing abnormal proliferation and survival of cancer cells.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common type of lung cancer, accounting for approximately 85% of all lung cancer cases. NSCLCBased on cell type, it is further divided into adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and large cell carcinoma. EGFRmutations are relatively common in NSCLC especially in female patients who have never smoked. However, exon 20insertion mutations are a rare but difficult-to-treat type of mutation because they are resistant to many conventional EGFR targeted therapies.
Mobotinib blocks the signaling pathways of cancer cells by irreversibly binding to and inhibiting the tyrosine kinase activity of EGFR , thereby inhibiting the growth and spread of tumors. It specifically targets EGFR exon 20 insertion mutations, which allows it to still have an inhibitory effect on tumors even when traditional EGFR inhibitors are ineffective. In this way, mobosetinibprovides a new treatment option for NSCLC patients with this particular type of mutation.
In 2021, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted accelerated approval of mobotinib (mobosetinib)for the treatment of patients with EGFRexons20Insertion mutationNSCLC patients. The approval was based on significant efficacy and safety data demonstrated in clinical trials. Mobotinib (mobosetinib)can significantly prolong the progression-free survival of patients and has shown complete or partial tumor response in some cases.
