fostamatinib instructions

Indications: Fostamatinib is used to treat thrombocytopenia (a lower than normal number of platelets) in adults with chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP; an ongoing disorder in which an abnormally low number of platelets in the blood may cause abnormal bruising or bleeding) who are not receiving help from another treatment.

Mechanism of action: Fostatinib is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor with activity against splenic tyrosine kinase (SYK). The major metabolite of fostamatinib, R406, inhibits signaling at Fc-activating receptors and B-cell receptors. The fostamatinib metabolite R406 reduces antibody-mediated platelet destruction.

Dosage: Fostatinib is available as an oral tablet. The starting dose of fostatinib is 100 mg orally twice daily. After one month, if the platelet count has not increased to at least 50 Use the lowest dose of fostatinib as needed to achieve and maintain a platelet count of at least 50 x 10⁹/L to reduce the risk of bleeding. Fostatinib can be taken with food or alone.

SIDE EFFECTS: Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; trouble breathing; swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Fostatinib may cause serious side effects. Contact your doctor right away if you have: severe diarrhea; stomach pain (upper right side); dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); headache, chest pain, shortness of breath; or fever, sore throat, or other signs of infection. If you experience certain side effects, your dose of fostatinib may be delayed or permanently stopped.

Common side effects of fostatinib may include: increased blood pressure; diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain; abnormal liver function tests; chest pain; dizziness, fatigue; rash; or cold symptoms such as nasal congestion, sneezing, sore throat. This is not a complete list of side effects, and other side effects may occur, and patients should seek medical attention immediately if they experience any discomfort while taking fostatinib.

Precautions: Fostatinib may increase your blood pressure, sometimes to dangerous levels. Fostatinib may also cause liver problems, severe diarrhea, and infections. Contact your doctor if you have any of the following symptoms: headache, chest pain, shortness of breath, severe diarrhea, stomach pain, fever, or sore throat. Storage: Store at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Store tablets in their original containers with hygroscopic preservative packets or jars.
