How to take Ebglyss (Lebrikizumab)
Ebglyss (Lebrikizumab) is a medicine used to treat moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (AD) in adults and children 12 years and older who weigh at least 40 kg. These are patients whose disease is not effectively controlled by topical prescription therapies or where these therapies are not feasible. Before using Ebglyss, patients need to follow a series of medication instructions to ensure safety and effectiveness. It's not known whether Ebglyss is safe and effective in children younger than 12 years of age or children ages 12 to 18 who weigh less than 88 pounds (40kg).
Before starting treatment, patients should complete all age-appropriate vaccinations and follow current immunization guidelines. This step is crucial as it helps reduce the risk of infection, especially when receiving immunomodulatory therapy
1. The recommended usage and dosage are as follows: In weeks 0 and 2, the initial dose of Ebglyss is 500mg (two injections, 250mg each). Subsequently, 250 mg is given every two weeks until week 16 or beyond, depending on clinical response. After adequate clinical response is achieved, the maintenance dose is 250 mg every four weeks. This dosing regimen is designed to ensure that effective concentrations of the drug are maintained in the body to provide maximum symptom relief.
2. Ebglyss can be used together with topical treatments, especially topical corticosteroids (TCS). For sensitive areas, such as the face, neck, intercartilage and genital areas, topical calcineurin inhibitors (TCI) may also be considered, but they need to be used with caution to avoid worsening of the condition.
3. Ebglyss is administered by subcutaneous injection. Commonly used injection sites include the abdomen, thighs and back of the upper arm. The injection can be given by a medical staff or health care provider in the back of the patient's upper arm, and care should be taken to alternate the injection site with each injection. When injecting, avoid injecting within 2 inches (approximately 5 cm) of the belly button, and avoid injecting into areas of skin that are tender, bruised, red, hard, or areas of skin that have been affected by atopic dermatitis to reduce the occurrence of adverse reactions.
4. If a dose of Ebglyss is missed during medication, the patient should take a supplementary injection as soon as possible and resume the regular planned time for subsequent medication. This is very important to ensure continuity of treatment and stability of efficacy.
