What causes thyroid cancer
Thyroid cancer is a malignant tumor originating from thyroid tissue. Its root cause is abnormal changes in the DNA inside the thyroid cells. The thyroid gland, a butterfly-shaped gland located at the base of the neck, is responsible for producing and releasing thyroid hormones that are essential for maintaining normal physiological functions of the body. However, when the DNA in thyroid cells mutates, the cells can behave out of control, causing them to grow and multiply abnormally quickly.
TheseDNA mutations are called cancer-causing mutations by the medical community and break the natural laws of cell growth. Under normal circumstances, cells grow, divide according to a certain rhythm, and die naturally after completing their life cycle. However, in thyroid cancer, these abnormal cells are able to escape natural death and continue to survive and proliferate. As these cells accumulate, they eventually form a mass, which is medically known as a tumor.

Thyroid cancer tumors not only continue to grow in place, but may also invade surrounding tissue structures. To make matters worse, these cancer cells sometimes spread to the lymph nodes in the neck through the lymphatic system or blood circulation system, and even into the lungs, bones, and other parts of the body. This process of spread and metastasis is an important sign of the progression of thyroid cancer and is also the main reason for the increased difficulty in treatment.
Although the cause of most thyroid cancers is not fully understood by the medical community, scientists have been working hard in this area in the hope of finding the real culprits that causeDNA mutations. Currently, known risk factors for thyroid cancer include radiation exposure, genetic factors, and a history of certain thyroid diseases. However, these risk factors cannot fully explain the occurrence of all thyroid cancers. Therefore, further in-depth research and exploration are still needed for the prevention and treatment of thyroid cancer.
