Can endometrial cancer be cured?
Endometrial carcinoma (endometrial carcinoma) is a malignant tumor originating from the endometrium, and its treatment effect is closely related to early detection and diagnosis. When cancer is detected in its early stages, the chance of cure is relatively high. According to the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO), the five-year survival rate for stage I endometrial cancer can be as high as 85% to 95%. Therefore, timely medical treatment and relevant examinations are crucial to improving the cure rate.
One of the common symptoms of early endometrial cancer is abnormal bleeding, especially in postmenopausal women. This symptom needs more attention. Once abnormal bleeding occurs, patients should seek medical help immediately for detailed examination and diagnosis. Typically, a confirmed diagnosis of endometrial cancer requires collection of endometrial tissue samples through dilation and curettage and pathological analysis under a microscope to determine whether cancer cells are present.
In terms of treatment, patients diagnosed early are usually treated surgically, primarily with hysterectomy, including possible adnexectomy. This surgery can effectively remove cancerous tissue and reduce the risk of disease recurrence. In addition, depending on the patient's specific circumstances, adjuvant measures such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or hormone therapy may be considered to further improve the possibility of cure.
However, if the cancer has spread to other areas outside the uterus by the time it is diagnosed, the chance of cure is significantly reduced. The goals of treatment for advanced endometrial cancer often shift toward prolonging patient survival and improving quality of life. In this case, doctors will develop a personalized treatment plan based on the patient's specific condition, which may include systemic treatments such as chemotherapy or targeted therapy.
