Causes of brain tumors

Brain tumors are abnormal cell growths inside the brain that may be benign or malignant and that interfere with normal brain function. The formation of brain tumors is a complex process that is often related to genetic abnormalities on the cell chromosomes. When certain genes are damaged and no longer work properly, the rate at which cells divide may spin out of control, or the cells may be unable to repair defects in other genes or even self-destruct if the damage is irreparable.

A person may be born with a defect in some of these genes, and environmental factors may further exacerbate the damage. In some cases, environmental factors may be the sole cause of genetic damage. However, it's unclear why some people develop brain tumors in certain circumstances and others don't. This may be related to various factors such as the individual's genetic background, lifestyle, environmental factors, and the status of the immune system.

Once cells begin to divide rapidly and the internal mechanisms that control their growth are disrupted, the cells eventually grow into tumors. The body's immune system is usually able to detect and kill abnormal cells, but tumors may produce substances that prevent the immune system from recognizing and attacking these abnormal tumor cells. In addition, tumors may produce substances called angiogenic factors that promote the growth of new blood vessels to increase their nutrient supply.

In short, the formation of brain tumors is a complex process with multiple factors and steps, involving genetic abnormalities, environmental factors, immune system status, and biological characteristics of tumor cells. More extensive and in-depth research is needed to gain a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of brain tumor formation and to translate this into potential treatments.
