What is Fostamatinib?
Fostamatinib (Fostamatinib) is an oral drug, mainly used as a spleen tyrosine kinase (SYK) inhibitor, specifically used to treat chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). ITP is a disease caused by an abnormality in the immune system, characterized by a lower than normal number of platelets in the blood, which may cause patients to bleed or bruise easily. Fotantinib inhibits the action of spleen tyrosine kinase, thereby increasing platelet production and survival, increasing platelet counts and helping to reduce the risk of bleeding.

Fotantinib is considered an important treatment option for ITP patients whose disease cannot be effectively controlled by other treatment options However, the safety and effectiveness of fotantinib in pediatric patients is currently unclear, so its use is generally restricted to adult patients. Fotantinib is only available by prescription, and patients should consult their doctor before starting treatment. The recommended starting dose of fotantinib is 100 mg twice daily. During treatment, doctors will adjust the dose based on changes in the patient's platelet count and possible side effects. The maximum dose is 150 mg twice daily. If within 12 weeks, the platelet count does not rise significantly enough to prevent bleeding, your doctor may decide to stop treatment.
Fotantinib may cause adverse reactions, including high blood pressure, liver problems, severe diarrhea, and infections. Among them, high blood pressure is an important concern, and patients need to regularly monitor their blood pressure during treatment to ensure that it is within a safe range. Fotantinib may also make patients more susceptible to infections or even worsen existing infections. In addition, doctors may interrupt or permanently stop fortantinib if a patient develops serious side effects.
