Are there any actual cases of axitinib/axitinib treating lung cancer?

Axitinib/Axitinib is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor targeting vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR), which has attracted widespread attention in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in recent years. Since many lung cancer patients are already at an advanced stage when diagnosed, it is particularly important to explore effective treatments. Axitinib provides a new treatment option for patients with non-small cell lung cancer by inhibiting tumor angiogenesis.

In relevant clinical studies, axitinib has demonstrated a strong ability to inhibitVEGFR, helping to improve the tumor microenvironment, thereby preventing tumor growth and metastasis. For example, in an experiment on mice carrying the A549 cell line of human non-small cell lung cancer, researchers combined axitinib with radiation therapy to evaluate its effectiveness against lung tumors. Quantitative assessment of lung tumor nodules showed that the combination of axitinib and radiotherapy could significantly reduce tumor volume, and this combination therapy performed well in terms of safety, with no obvious heart, liver, or kidney damage observed.

At the same time, during long-term use of axitinib, the weight loss of mice was kept to a minimum, demonstrating the advantages of this drug in side effect management. These research results provide a certain theoretical basis for the potential application of axitinib in non-small cell lung cancer.

Although axitinib improved progression-free survival (PFS) in some studies, clinical data to date have not fully demonstrated its improvement in overall survival (OS). Therefore, the specific role of axitinib in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer still needs more clinical trials to further verify. Through continuous research and exploration, it is expected to provide more effective treatment options for lung cancer patients.
