Is teriparatide injection necessary for long-term use?

Teriparatide injection does not require long-term use. It is usually used as a short-term treatment for osteoporosis. Its main function is to reduce the risk of fractures by promoting bone formation and increasing bone density. Teriparatide is usually used in patients who have experienced a fracture or are at higher risk for fracture, especially if other drugs (such as bisphosphonates) are not working as well or are not tolerated. According to treatment guidelines, the use of teriparatide is generally recommended for 1 to 2 years.

In clinical applications, the treatment course of teriparatide is usually shorter because its main effect is to stimulate bone formation, and using it for too long may increase the risk of side effects.
