Does Linezolid/Siwo have anti-tumor effects?
Linezolid (Linezolid) is an oxazolidinone antibiotic. Its main mechanism is to inhibit the 50S subunit of bacterial ribosomes and block protein synthesis, thereby exerting antibacterial and even bactericidal effects. Its clinical application scope mainly focuses on Gram-positive bacterial infections (Bacterial infections), including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE). In traditional drug classification, linezolid is strictly defined as an anti-infective drug rather than an anti-tumor drug. However, in recent years, some studies have begun to explore the potential role of antibiotics in cancer treatment, which has also raised curiosity about whether linezolid has anti-tumor activity.

From a research perspective, some academic teams have tried to explore whether oxazolidinones can indirectly affect the energy metabolism of tumor cells by interfering with mitochondrial protein synthesis. Because tumor cells' dependence on mitochondrial function is evident in certain subtypes, theoretically inhibiting mitochondrial protein translation may cause an energy crisis, thereby affecting the proliferation of cancer cells. Linezolid, as a drug that can act on bacterial ribosomes, has also been found to have a certain impact on mitochondrial translation in eukaryotic cells, which has been observed to have an inhibitory effect on tumor cell activity in experimental studies.
However, at present, this type of research mainly remains in the basic science or early exploration stage, and there is no definite clinical data to support the use of linezolid as an anti-cancer drug. Neither mainstream international guidelines nor drug instructions include it in cancer treatment options. Its core value still focuses on the control of drug-resistant bacterial infections. Especially among patients with hematological tumors or solid tumors, who are prone to severe infections due to low immunity, linezolid is often an important option for rescue treatment.
