It is a farnesoid X receptor (FXR) agonist. Obeticholic acid was developed by Intercept Pharmaceuticals in the United States. It was first approved for marketing by the U.S. FDA on May 27, 2016, and was approved for marketing by the European Union on December 12, 2016.
Obeticholic acid plus ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) is indicated for use in adults with primary biliary cholangitis (formerly known as primary biliary cirrhosis, PBC) who have an inadequate response to UDCA or as monotherapy in adults with primary biliary cholangitis who are intolerant to UDCA.
Is imported obeticholic acid available in China?
It has not yet been launched in China, and there are no related drugs for obeticholic acid for sale in China. It is believed that in the near future, obeticholic acid will be licensed by the State Food and Drug Administration and be launched in China.
