Developed by Novartis, it is currently the only oral iron chelator. It was approved by the FDA in November 2005 for use in patients 2 years and older with chronic iron overload caused by blood transfusions.

In December 2012, Deferasirox was approved by the European Commission for the treatment of chronic iron overload in patients aged 10 years and older with non-transfusion-dependent thalassemia (NTDT) syndrome who require chelation therapy due to contraindications or insufficiency of deferoxamine mesylate therapy.

Deferasirox is a drug commonly used to relieve iron accumulation. So, what is the price of Deferasirox in China?

Domestic price of Deferasirox: The price of a box is about $2,000. For an ordinary person weighing 60kg, the cost of taking Deferasirox for a month is more than about $24,000. It can be seen that it is difficult for ordinary families to accept this price and cannot afford it!

   Fortunately, there are also foreign versions for everyone to choose from. Novartis of Switzerland imported Deferasirox to India. The specification is 400mg*30 tablets/box, and the price is about $700.

In addition, it should be taken on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before meals, once a day, preferably at the same time every day. Tablets should not be chewed or swallowed whole. Deferasirox should not be taken with antacids containing aluminum and the dose (mg/kg) to be administered needs to be calculated and rounded to the nearest whole tablet. Completely dissolve the tablets in water, apple juice or orange juice (100-200mL) by stirring until a clear suspension is obtained and then drink it. The remaining medicine must be added with a small amount of water, apple juice or orange juice and mixed well before being taken. Not recommended for dissolution in carbonated drinks or milk as it can cause foaming and slow dispersion.
