It is developed by Novartis and is currently the only oral iron ion chelator. So, what is Enriga used to treat?

Indications of Enrig:

1. Patients with chronic iron overload transfusion hemosiderinosis secondary to blood transfusion who are 2 years old or older will develop symptoms of chronic iron overload when serum ferritin continues to be >1000 L. At this time, iron chelation therapy should be started.

2. Patients receiving ASCT can also be given iron chelator treatment when iron overload occurs;

3. It can be used to treat reversible renal insufficiency caused by Fanconi syndrome.

Precautions when taking Enrige:

1. Do not use this product if you are allergic or sensitive to any ingredient in Enrige.

2. Most adverse reactions occur in the first month of treatment with Enrig. Liver function should be checked regularly while taking Enrig.

3. In some cases, patients who have fatal reactions after taking Enriga may develop renal failure. Patients with renal failure or who are at significant risk for renal failure should have periodic kidney function tests while taking Enriga. People at risk of kidney failure include the elderly, people with kidney disease, and people taking medications that affect kidney function.

4. Dosage adjustment may be required. Enriga is associated with potentially serious reductions in white blood cell and platelet counts, particularly in people with pre-existing blood disorders.

5. Enrig can cause hearing loss and eye disease only in rare cases. A comprehensive hearing and eye examination should be performed before starting use of Enrig and, thereafter, yearly.

6. People taking Enriga have experienced gastrointestinal bleeding and ulcers, including some children and adolescents. There is an increased risk when using Enrigen with blood thinners or other drugs that irritate the gastrointestinal tract, such as corticosteroids and bisphosphonates.

7. Use may cause skin rash. If the condition is severe, the medication may need to be stopped temporarily and then restarted at a lower dose.
