The first oral iron anthelmintic approved by the U.S. FDA for routine use was an iron chelator product developed by the Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis. The application of iron chelators has greatly reduced the mortality rate and improved the quality of life of patients with long-term blood transfusions. Enrig Indications: Enrig is used to treat chronic iron overload in patients with β-thalassemia older than 6 years old due to frequent blood transfusions (monthly administration of concentrated red blood cells ≥ 7 mL/kg); for children under 6 years old and iron overload caused by other transfusion-dependent diseases, Enrig Chinese patients have limited safety and efficacy data, and it is recommended to use it with caution based on the specific situation of the patient.

Enriga should be taken once a day on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before a meal, preferably at the same time each day. Tablets should not be chewed or swallowed whole. Enrige should not be taken with aluminum-containing antacids, and the dosage (mg/kg) needs to be calculated and rounded to the nearest whole tablet.

Completely dissolve the tablets in water, apple juice or orange juice (100-200mL) by stirring until a clear suspension is obtained and then drink it. The remaining medicine must be added with a small amount of water, apple juice or orange juice and mixed well before taking. It is not recommended that Enrego be dissolved in carbonated drinks or milk as it can cause foaming and slow dispersion.

A prospective, observational study in China using liver, pancreas, and heart as monitoring indicators confirmed that Enrig can improve organ function in patients with iron overload. The results of the TELESTO study released at the ASH 2018 meeting also proved that Enrige continuously reduces serum ferritin levels, while reducing the risk of heart function damage, liver function damage, transformation to leukemia and other events by 36.4%.

It is easy to administer, significantly reduces ferritin levels, and has a definite effect in protecting important target organ systems such as the liver, heart, and endocrine system. It is currently the preferred option for iron removal treatment.
