Indications of Novartis of Switzerland: In 2010, Novartis of Switzerland's deferasirox dispersible tablets were approved for marketing in China. The indications are for the treatment of chronic iron overload caused by frequent blood transfusions in patients with β-thalassemia aged 2 years and above and the treatment of chronic iron overload in patients with non-transfusion-dependent thalassemia (NTDT) syndrome aged 10 years and above.

Novartis is one of the world's most innovative pharmaceutical and healthcare companies, with operations in more than 140 countries and regions around the world. It is committed to researching, developing and promoting innovative products to help humans cure diseases, alleviate pain and improve quality of life. Deferasirox's excellent iron-removing effectiveness, safety and patient compliance have greatly reduced the mortality of patients with diseases such as thalassemia and MDS that require long-term blood transfusion treatment, and improved their quality of life.

It is recommended that patients with iron accumulation, such as those who require long-term blood transfusion (blood transfusion volume up to 100ml/kg) and whose serum ferritin exceeds 1000ug/L, are initially recommended to take deferasirox at a dose of 20mg/kg per day based on their body weight. If the serum ferritin index improves, the patient may need to adjust or increase the dose of deferasirox. Generally, the dose will be increased in units of 5mg/kg or 10mg/kg, but the total dose should not exceed 30mg/kg per day.

Chronic iron overload is a serious symptom, and organ failure may occur due to the iron deposits produced. When the heart or liver is affected, the condition can be life-threatening. It is an iron chelator, and the application of iron chelators has greatly reduced the mortality rate and improved the quality of life in patients with long-term blood transfusions, which means that deferasirox can effectively treat the symptoms of chronic iron overload.
