Fidaxomicin (Dificid) is a macrolide antibiotic specifically targeted at Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD).

What disease does fidaxomicin (Dificid) treat?

It is used to treat Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD) in adults and children 6 months and older.

Fidaxomicin (Dificid) applicable population

Fidaxomicin is suitable for adult patients and pediatric patients 6 months and above. During use, the principles of antimicrobial stewardship should be strictly followed and used only when Clostridium difficile infection is confirmed or highly suspected. If there are drug susceptibility results, the plan should be adjusted based on the results; in the absence of data, empirical treatment can be carried out with reference to local epidemiology and resistance patterns.

The use of fidaxomicin needs to be targeted at patients with clear or highly suspected Clostridium difficile infection and should be used rationally based on clinical and laboratory information to achieve the best efficacy and reduce the risk of drug resistance.

The pictures come from public channels (such as the official website of the FDA, the official website of the original drug manufacturer, etc.) and are for reference only.

Usage and dosage of fidaxomicin (Dificid)

1. Adult patients

The recommended dose of fidaxomicin for adult patients is to take one 200 mg fidaxomicin tablet twice a day for 10 consecutive days.

2. Pediatric patients (6 months to under 18 years old)

For pediatric patients weighing at least 12.5kg and able to swallow tablets, the recommended dose is one 200mg tablet, taken orally twice a day for 10 days. If you are unable to swallow the tablets, it is recommended to consult a medical advisor.

Drug interactions of fidaxomicin (Dificid)

Fidaxomicin and its major metabolite OP-1118 are substrates of P-glycoprotein (P-gp). Plasma concentrations of fidaxomicin may be increased when coadministered with P-glycoprotein inhibitors (such as cyclosporine), but due to its extremely low absorption, this interaction is not considered clinically significant. Therefore, dosage adjustments are generally not required when administered with fidaxomicin.

Storage method of fidaxomicin (Dificid)

1. Temperature control

Fidaxomicin tablets and stored oral suspension should be stored at 20℃-25℃. The allowed deviation is 15℃-30℃. For details, please refer to the room temperature controlled by USP. Medication needs to be stored in the original bottle and do not open the bag before use.

2. Moisture-proof and moisture-proof

Choose a dry, well-ventilated place to store fidaxomicin to prevent the drug from getting damp. Changes in humidity may also have a negative impact on the stability of fidaxomicin. When storing, try to avoid switching between humid and dry environments to maintain product quality.

3. Store away from light

Fidaxomicin should be kept away from direct sunlight, as light may have an adverse effect on the stability of the drug. You can choose a dark place to store the medication, or use an opaque container to protect the medication from light.
